Putting this rod together with my kid was half the fun, and the ratchet reel actually works smoothly when you crank it. The fact that you build three different fish and lures keeps it interesting—we’ve already had a few “big catches” in the living room. Great quality for the price.

The ratchet mechanism on the reel clicks so satisfyingly that my nephew refused to put the rod down for a solid hour. We built all three fish and lures together, and the whole thing held up way better than the flimsy sets I remember from my own childhood.
